I’m Niall, an R&D engineer with a focus at the intersection of Computer Graphics and Machine Learning, with specific interests in Simulation and Neural Rendering. In 2023 I graduated from a MSc in Computer Science (High Performance Graphics) at the University of Leeds. My dissertation project involved the use of convolutional neural networks to accelerate real-time fluid simulations. This site showcases my public personal and work related projects. I also host some of my open source code on GitHub.

With a career in the Visual Effects industry starting when I was 17, I spent over 6 years as a FX Technical Director at companies such as Framestore, Scanline VFX & Platige Image. During this time I built upon and applied my skills in physics simulations with a focus on fluid phenomna. I had the pleasure of building simulation setups, developing tools and running simulations for a variety of feature films and TV shows. This included been part of the Emmy winning visual effects team on Game of Thrones in 2019. More recently I spent some time at ILM in London working as an R&D Engineer while finishing my MSc. My deep rooted interest in the technical and research side of Graphics and Simulation along with a growing passion for Machine Learning led me to pursue a more R&D based career. I’m excited to work on tech with interesting use cases in the creation and simulation of virtual and augmented worlds!
